UAB Volleyball Travels to Jacksonville State for Exhibition

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB volleyball team travels to Jacksonville State for an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 21. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Pete Mathews Coliseum.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN
- UAB returns its three all-conference selections in outside hitter Fernanda Maida (First Team), outside hitter Alex Kells (Second Team) and libero/defensive specialist Erin Powers (All-Freshman).
- Maida was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-South Region Team.
- The Blazers also return all six starters and their libero.
- The Green and Gold add four newcomers – three freshman and one graduate transfer.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
- Jacksonville State return five of its top attackers from the spring in Lena Kindermann, Courtney Glotzbach, Kaylie Milton, Katie Montgomery and Sadie Brown.
- During the 2020-21 season, Glotzbach was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of Year.
- Kindermann, an outside hitter, was recently named to the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Team.
2020-21 SEASON RECAP
- The Blazers made its first Conference USA Tournament since 2013.
- UAB had their best Conference USA winning percentage (.583) since 2012.
UP NEXT
The Blazers open up the 2021 season at the Troy Preseason Invitational. In the tournament, UAB will face Ole Miss on Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. and host institution Troy on Aug. 29 at 2 p.m.
