UAB Softball Drops Final Two Games at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The UAB softball team dropped its final two games on the road at North Texas on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers went 2-2 against the Mean Green in the four-game series.
UAB (15-15, 2-2 C-USA) sustained a 6-1 loss in the first game of the day, before being edged out in game two of the doubleheader 2-1.
GAME 1: UAB 1, North Texas 6
The Blazers were able get on the board first in game one.
In the first inning, UAB went up 1-0 on a Analyse Petree sac fly that scored KK Crocker.
After a scoreless second inning, the Mean Greens' bats got hot in the third. North Texas hit back-to-back homers, going up 3-1.
The Mean Green hit their third homerun of the game in the fourth inning, a two-run homerun over the left field wall that put them up 5-1.
After a scoreless fifth, North Texas added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Parker Conrad (4-3) was on the hook for the loss in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing four hits, three runs and striking out three batters.
Jaycee Cook pitched 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs on two hits, while Olivia Valbak finished the last two innings of the game. Valbak's line was four hits, one run and two strikeouts.
The Blazers were only able to record four hits in the game.
Game 2: UAB: 1, North Texas 2
The final game of the four-game series between the Blazers and North Texas was a low-scoring affair.
The Mean Green opened the game by hitting a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning, going up 2-0. It was the fourth Mean Green homerun of the day.
UAB and North Texas each posted zeros in the second and third innings, before UAB was able to cut the lead in half.
A Faith Hegh RBI single in the fourth inning scored pinch runner Makalah Mitchell, giving the Blazers its first run in 10 innings.
Amy Woodham, who started the game, kept the Mean Green (15-9, 2-2 C-USA) scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, but UAB was unable to plate any runs.
Woodham (2-8), who pitched the entire game, allowed three hits, two runs and recorded five strikeouts.
Jenna Olszewski and Taylor Watford each had a team-high two hits each.
The Blazers will return to action this weekend when they host UTEP for a four-game series on April 9-11.
