UAB Baseball Falls at Middle Tennessee, 17-7

Junior Ian Ladner led UAB (13-26, 6-13 C-USA) at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a career-high five RBIs and a home run. Jordan Bonk had a career-high day on the mound after tossing three innings in relief with a strikeout and no walks.
Tanner Rusk (1-2) took the loss for the Blazers, while Jaden Hamm (2-1) picked up the win after pitching two innings in relief.
Middle Tennessee (20-17-1, 9-9-1 C-USA) jumped out to an early lead, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings.
In the top of the third, Joseph Kiel and Darryl Buggs led off with back-to-back singles. Kiel was driven in two batters later on a base hit by Zack Davis. Ladner came up and hit a three-run shot over the left field wall to bring the score to 11-4 in the next at-bat.
The Blue Raiders added a run in the bottom of the third, bringing their lead to eight.
UAB brought in a run in the top of the sixth off a sacrifice fly from Pate Fullerton. Middle Tennessee brought in two runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning for the 14-5 advantage.
With Chandler Simpson and Colton Schultz on with one out, Ladner sent a double down the left field line for his fourth and fifth RBIs on the day, cutting the Blue Raider lead in half, 14-7.
Middle Tennessee closed out the game in the seventh after scoring three runs for the 17-7 win.
