UAB’s Comeback Falls Short in 6-5 Loss to Auburn

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team fell to Auburn in a close contest at Regions Field Tuesday night, 6-5.
Austin Bohannon got the start for UAB (6-5, 0-0 CUSA) going a season-high 5.1 innings with two strikeouts. Jess Davis led the offense for the Blazers going 2-for-4, with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
"We are proud of how competitive Austin was tonight in his start," head coach Perry Roth said. "We will continue to work to clean up our mistakes and we have to learn to execute. It was awesome to have fans in the stands tonight."
Auburn (8-4, 0-0 SEC) got on the board first in the second inning off an error for the 1-0 advantage. The Tigers added another run in the sixth on a ground-rule double to left field to go up, 2-0.
UAB answered back in the bottom half of the inning scoring four runs. John Marc Mullins recorded the first hit for the Blazers on a double down the right field line. Jess Davis sent a single through the right side to bring in two runs. Thomas Johnston and J Paul Fullerton recorded RBIs to add two more runs for the lead, 4-2.
Auburn scored four runs in the eighth to reclaim their lead. Tyler Miller hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored a run to bring the Blazer lead down to one. Two batters later, Brody Moore recorded a two-run single to take the one-run lead, 5-4. The Tigers scored their fourth run on an error.
Jess Davis led off the home half of the inning with his second hit of the night. He came around to score after Zack Davis reached on an error to bring the score within one. The Tigers were able to close out the Blazers in the ninth to complete the comeback, 6-5.
UAB will head on the road to Statesboro, Ga. for a three-game series against Georgia Southern on March 12-14. Live stats and streaming information for each game is available on the UAB baseball schedule page.

Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.

Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
