Big Singles Performance Lifts UAB Over WKU 4-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – UAB won its eight match in its last nine tries on Saturday afternoon after defeating WKU 4-2.
The Blazers (10-6, 2-1 C-USA) dropped the doubles point, but rebounded by winning four of the decided five singles points. Sydney Clarke tied the match at 1-1 after winning on Court 4 by the score of 6-2, 6-3. WKU went ahead 2-1 after winning on Court 1. Megan Bertrands' 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 3 tied the match at 2-2.
UAB took the lead when Annalisa Smith won on Court 6 by the score of 6-2, 6-1. Adela Wasserbauerova got the clincher on Court 2. She dropped the first set 6-0 before coming back, winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-3. Dominika Hrabalova split her sets 6-3, 5-7 when the match was decided.
The Blazers wrap up non-conference play in Georgia next week. April 4, UAB visits Georgia State followed by a match against Kennesaw State on April 5. The regular season concludes at George Ward Park on April 10 against Middle Tennessee.
