Blazer Baseball Completes Sweep of Alabama A&M, 7-3

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team completed the series sweep over Alabama A&M with a 7-3 win at Regions Field on Sunday, earning their firs series sweep since 2019.

Freshman Carson Knight earned his first career win throwing 6.1 innings with three hits, three strikeouts and two earned runs. The trio of Dylan Cunningham, Collin Taylor and Evan Ingram pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief and allowed no hits.

"Carson was outstanding," head coach Perry Roth said. "The bullpen followed him up. When you limit the other team's chances to score it makes for a fun day."

Caleb Floyd led off the scoring for UAB (5-2, 0-0 CUSA) with a solo homerun to left field that ended in the Blazers' bullpen.

"Caleb hit that ball a ton which he has the ability to do and that got us going," added Roth.

Alabama A&M (0-5, 0-0 SWAC) responded in the top of the third with a Trevor Berkemeyer two RBI single to take the lead, 2-1.

The Blazers regained the lead in sixth, 4-2. Zack Davis singled to bring Floyd and Colton Schultz came home on a throwing error. In the next at bat, Thomas Johnston reached on a fielder's choice that brought in J Paul Fullerton.

The Bulldogs brought in a run in the top of the seventh to bring the UAB lead to one, 4-3. The Green and Gold answered back in the bottom half of the inning to bring the lead to two, 5-3.

UAB added two runs in the eighth on a John Marc Mullins RBI single and a Chandler Simpson RBI triple in the next at bat.

Ingram closed out the game retiring all three batters he faced to cap off the win and the series sweep, 7-3.

"It was great to have fans out at the game today," Roth added. "We are looking forward to a packed house on Tuesday against Alabama."
