UAB Baseball Falls in Series Opener to Kennesaw State, 3-2

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team dropped a close game with Kennesaw State in the series opener on Friday at Young Memorial Field, 3-2.
Four Blazers tallied hits in the contest, including extra bases from Caleb Floyd and Colton Schultz. Junior right-handed pitcher Riley Davis got the start for UAB (5-3, 0-0 CUSA) going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts.
The Blazers and Kennesaw State (6-3, 0-0 ASUN) remained scoreless through the first four innings, leaving 11 combined runners on base.
UAB got on the board first with a Jess Davis single in the bottom of the fifth and advancing to second on an error by the Owl's first baseman, scoring Chandler Simpson from second.
Trailing by one in the top of the eighth, Kennesaw State plated three runs on a pair of hits, a walk and an error to take the lead, 3-1.
In the ninth, Collin Taylor retired the side to keep the Blazers within two. Schultz led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to right field. Thomas Johnston came up with a sacrifice fly to score Schultz, bringing the Blazes within one. UAB's rally came up short and Kennesaw State took game one, 3-2.

Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.

Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
BASEBALL SINGLE GAME TICKETS
General admission single game tickets will be on sale for games at Regions Field and seats on site are available in groups of up to four (4) seats by clicking here.
