UAB Picks Up Six Wins Over Power 5 Schools at Roberta Alison Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team participated in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic this week and came away with 10 match wins with six of those victories over Power 5 schools.
In doubles (Bentley/Stephenson Draw), Annalisa Smith and Enya Ratkic defeated teams from Virginia Tech 6-3 and Troy 6-3 to advance to the finals against Memphis. However, it was Tigers that came out on top by the score of 6-2.
Vanessa Mellynchuk and Alexandra da Silva also made it to the final of their bracket (Guarachi/Macfarlane Draw). They defeated teams from Indiana 6-3 and Auburn 7-5 before falling in the finals to Tulane 6-1.
After falling to Indiana and Tulane, Sydney Clarke and Maggie White defeated Maryland 6-3 in the backdraw of the Wilmink/Van Dijk Draw.
In the Patti Farmer Singles Draw, da Silva was a straight set winner over Virginia Tech 6-0, 6-3. Smith was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Indiana in the Beth Cleno Draw. Both da Silva (6-3, 6-4), Clark (7-6, 7-5) and Mellynchuk (1-6, 6-1, 10-5) were winners in the Big Al Draw over players from Troy.
Today's match marks the end of the Fall season. The Spring season begins Jan. 22 and 23 when UAB plays Furman and Auburn – both in Auburn, Ala.
