Former UAB guard Paul Delaney has completed his 11th season professionally, but first with Elitzur Ironi Ashkelon of the Israel National League in Israel.
Elitzur Ironi Ashkelon is located in Ashkelon, Israel which is a coastal city in the southern district of Israel on the Mediterranean coast.
Delaney played in 20 games before the season was brought to an early conclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Decatur, Ga. native averaged 19.4 points per game and 7.1 assists per game including a career-high 48 point, eight rebounds, and seven assist performance in a win against Hapoel Hevel Modi'in on January 7th. This performance would give him Israeli National League Player of the Week honors.
Delaney has played the majority of his professional career with teams in Israel but has had stops in France (Cholet and Poiters), Russia (Spartak Primorie), and Ukraine (Khimik Yuzhny). In 11 years, the 2012 Israeli Premier League All-Star has averaged 13.8 points and 4.1 assists per game including winning the 2011 Israeli National League Championship.
While in uniform at UAB, Delaney was named to the 2007 All-Conference USA First Team and 2009 All Conference USA Second Team, including winning 85 games over a five-year span. The two-time Conference USA All-Defensive Team honoree averaged 11.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game at UAB.
