Sellers Releases Information on Cheerleading Tryouts for 2020-21

BIRMINGHAM - Thank you for your interest in the UAB Cheerleading team. Not only are we fortunate to have one of the top educational institutions in the country, but one of the finest spirit programs as well. We are very serious about the excellence of our department and are actively seeking quality individuals to utilize their talents, while pursuing a higher education, to be a part of the Blazer Family. We are looking for quality people to fulfill the role of ambassadors for the university and new talent to strengthen our competitive squad.
What: Tryouts for the UAB Cheerleading team.
When: Virtual submission, due May 4th (More information in the above CHEER tab under "Cheerleader Application")
What to Wear: Ladies: fitted tank top/shirt and athletic shorts, bloomers, ribbon, cheer shoes and tall socks. Men: Athletic t-shirt, athletic shorts, shoes and socks.
The following will be taught and scored during tryouts:
- UAB Fight Song (standing tuck) - Standing & Running Tumbling - Interview

Where can I find additional details about tryouts?
In the CHEER tab above you can click on "Cheerleading Application," it will list all requirements and submission information.
Will it hurt my chances if I cannot submit stunt videos?
Although we will only be selecting the team on the required material, the more you can display your talents the better.
How should I wear my hair and makeup?
Ladies need to look "gameday ready" in every picture and video submission. Hair should be in a high pony and lipstick must be worn. Guys should be well groomed.
If I am currently injured how will my tryout process be judged?
If we do not have prior knowledge of your skill set, this will hinder your tryout process. If this is the case, we will contact your previous coaches to determine your skill level.
Where can I find the fight song video?
Our "UAB Spirit Teams" Facebook page will have all videos and examples of gameday ready.
It is April 23rd-29th and I have emailed Coach Sellers with questions but I have not received a response...?
Coach Sellers wife is due April 26th (baby girl), he will be away from all communication during that time. Although you can still submit videos during this time, if you have specific questions that need to be answered immediately you can email Coach Paige. kpaige96@uab.edu
