UAB Softball to Host Samford on Tuesday for Annual Teal Game

BIRMINGHAM β Opening up its home schedule, the UAB softball team hosts Samford on Tuesday, Feb. 18, for the second annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Teal Game. First pitch at Mary Bowers Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.

After playing its first two weeks on the road, UAB (8-3) opens up a six game homestand beginning with the Bulldogs (5-4), who the Blazers lead 30-6 in the all-time series.

UAB is coming off a week in which they went 4-2. Junior Amy Woodham was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week for throwing two complete game shutouts. In three total appearance last week, Woodham allowed zero runs in 15 innings of work and struck out 12 batters. Woodham carries a 0.70 ERA heading into this week.

The Blazers pitching staff collectively has been tremendous to start the season, boasting an overall 1.91 ERA. All three of UAB's victories last weekend at the Scrap Yard College Softball Classic were shutout wins. Β

Senior Dylinn Stancil was the catalyst for UAB offensively, batting a whopping .619 in six games (13-of-21), including a 5-for-5 performance against Southeastern Louisiana last Wednesday.

Overall, UAB is batting .319 as a team and has six players who are hitting above .300.

Following Samford, UAB hosts No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Louisiana and Ole Miss this weekend, Feb. 21-23, for the high-caliber Blazer Classic at Mary Bowers Field.
