Jalen Benjamin Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – After averaging 12.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field in UAB's victories over WKU and Marshall, freshman guard Jalen Benjamin has earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
Benjamin scored 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers in the Blazers' 72-62 victory over Marshall on Jan. 9. The Raleigh, N.C. native dished out a career-high six assists in the win.
On Jan. 11, Benjamin scored nine points in UAB's 61-50 win against Marshall.
For the week, he made 90 percent of his foul shots (9-of-10) and only recorded one personal foul in 61 minutes of play.
This is Benjamin's second C-USA award this season. He was also named Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Dec. 2.
UAB (11-6, 2-2 C-USA) travels to Florida to take on FIU (11-6, 2-2 C-USA) on Jan. 16 followed by Florida Atlantic (11-6, 3-1 C-USA) on Jan. 18. The Blazers return home on Jan. 23 to host Southern Miss followed by La. Tech on Jan. 25.
