UAB Opens 2019 Season at Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational

MIDLAND, Texas - The UAB women's tennis team started the fall season off at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. The Blazers were represented by Marlene Herrmann, Dominika Hrabalova and Alexia Witthaus.
In singles, Hrabalova and Herrmann were First Round winners. Hrabalova was a straight set winner over Eve Daniels from UTEP 6-4, 6-4 while Herrmann came back after dropping the first set 6-3 to take the match over
Helena Jansen from Tyler JC by winning the second and third sets 6-1, 6-2.
Witthaus fell to Sarah Adams from Abilene Christian 6-2, 6-1
In the second round Baylor's Kristina Sorokolet, who advanced to the finals, was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Hrabalova. UAT's Momoka Horiguchi needed three sets to defeat Herrmann 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
In the consolation bracket, Maria Aveiga from UTEP got by Witthaus 7-5, 4-6, (11-9).
Since UAB only brought three players, Witthaus teamed up with Isabella DiLaura from Texas Tech. The duo fell to Kristina Sorokolet and Anastasia Kharitonova of Baylor 8-6. Sanja Jolie and Jasmin Buchta of Lamar were 8-5 winners over Hrabalova and Herrmann
Up next, UAB heads to Macon, Ga. for theGrid Iron Classic Sept. 20-22.
