MIDLAND, Texas - The UAB women's tennis team started the fall season off at theΒ Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. The Blazers were represented byΒ Marlene Herrmann,Β Dominika HrabalovaΒ andΒ Alexia Witthaus.Β
In singles,Β HrabalovaΒ and Herrmann were First Round winners.Β HrabalovaΒ was a straight set winner over Eve Daniels from UTEPΒ 6-4, 6-4 whileΒ HerrmannΒ came back after dropping the first set 6-3 to take the matchΒ overΒ
Helena Jansen from Tyler JC by winning the second and third setsΒ 6-1, 6-2.
Witthaus fell to Sarah Adams from Abilene Christian 6-2, 6-1
In the second roundΒ Baylor'sΒ Kristina Sorokolet, who advanced to the finals, was aΒ 6-1, 6-4 winner overΒ Hrabalova. UAT'sΒ Momoka HoriguchiΒ needed three sets to defeat HerrmannΒ 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.Β
In the consolation bracket, Maria AveigaΒ fromΒ UTEP got by Witthaus 7-5, 4-6, (11-9).
Since UAB only brought three players,Β WitthausΒ teamed up withΒ Isabella DiLauraΒ from Texas Tech. The duo fell toΒ Kristina SorokoletΒ andΒ Anastasia KharitonovaΒ of Baylor 8-6.Β Sanja Jolie andΒ Jasmin BuchtaΒ of Lamar were 8-5 winners overΒ HrabalovaΒ and Herrmann
