Hecking Advances to Semifinals at Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Ga. - UAB's Jana Hecking advanced to the semifinal round in singles at the Mercer Gridiron Classic this past weekend. Hecking joined Alexia Witthaus, Dominika Hrabalova and Megan Bertrands in the Blazers' second event of the fall.
Hecking fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to North Florida's Valentina Mariotto after winning three matches.
Witthaus, Hrabalova and Bertrands each come up short in hard fought matches. Hrabalova and Bertrands both fell in three sets.
In UAB's only doubles action, Witthaus and Hrabalova were edged out by UNF's Kendall Nash/Ana Paula Melilo 6-4 in the first round.
