UAB Defeats Georgia Southern 1-0
9/15/2019 3:28:00 PM | Women's Soccer
STATESBORO, Ga. – Megan Hudgens found the back of the net in the 55th minute, scoring the only goal in UAB's 1-0 victory over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon.

Eve Beyer recorded her third straight shutout and got outstanding support from the backline who only allowed five shots.

The Blazers had a chance to get on the board in the 10th minute, but Morgan Halliwill's shot hit off the right post and the ensuing rebound was wide. In total, UAB fired nine shots in the half, but could not register a goal as the match went into halftime scoreless.

Ten minutes after the break, Hudgens was chasing a loose ball, running alongside GS defender Maddie Klintworth. Eagles keeper Olivia Regensburger also tried to make a play which resulted in the ball bouncing off Regensburger's right foot. Hudgens was able to track down the ball outside the box and easily put it in the empty net.

The defense limited any Georgia Southern scoring opportunities as the Blazers were able to hold possession the majority of the contest.

"We stuck to a game plan for about 60 minutes and it paid off for us," said head coach Erica Demers. "Megan's goal was a great representation of our second half expectations - compete and fight for every ball."

"Our focus now turns to the second part of our season, conference play. Everything now becomes more elevated and our hope is to continue improvements in certain areas while we prepare for La Tech," added Demers.

After a week off, UAB begins Conference USA play on Sept. 22 when the Blazers travel to Louisiana Tech. The next home match will be Sept. 29 against FAU.
