Meet The Blazers: Jahein Spencer

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team welcomes six new faces to the team this season – three freshmen Jahein Spencer, Jalen Benjamin and Jordan Brinson, a junior college transfer – Kassim Nicholson, one former UAB baseball player – Antonio Ralat and one transfer – Rashawn Fredericks.
UABSports.com will provide fans a quick introduction to these new Blazers, with today featuring Spencer.
The Napolenville, La. native comes to Birmingham with a championship pedigree. He led Madison Prep to the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A championship. The title capped a senior season that saw Spencer get named Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Class 3A Outstanding Player as well as to the First Team All-State squad. He was also on the Baton Rouge Area District 6-3A First Team and was an All-USA Louisiana Boys Basketball Team Second-team selection. Spencer averaged 23.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Chargers.
Spencer increased his scoring percentage by 48 percent from this junior season. He averaged 16.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while leading Madison to it's first-ever 3A State title
Bringing home hardware was nothing new to Madison Prep. After being elevated from playing 2A for two years. And in those two seasons, Madison won two state titles.
Spencer played AAU ball with Louisiana Elite. His finest game came against Virginia Elite when he scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting in 26 minutes of play.
