BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's soccer team will be spending the next four days in Chattanooga, Tenn. as part of their summer training program. The Blazers left Birmingham yesterday afternoon and will be training at Baylor School, which is a private prep school located on the banks of the Tennessee River.
In addition to the training, the Blazers will face Martin Methodist in a scrimmage on Aug. 11 – also at Baylor School. The RedHawks are an NAIA school located in Pulaski, Tenn. They are coming off a 19-1-2 season, finishing as the No. 7 ranked team in the country. Their only loss of the regular season was to No. 2 William Carey. MMC earned a No. 3 seed in the NAIA Championship, defeating LSU-Shreveport 9-1 in the First Round before falling to No. 21 Midland in the Second Round on penalty kicks.
The team also plans on doing team bonding activities such as paddle boarding and hiking in nearby parks.
The Blazers will make the 150 mile trek in preparation to the season-opener on Aug. 22 at Samford. UAB's first home match is Aug. 25 against College Cup participant TCU at newly renovated BBVA Field.
NOTE: The scrimmage will not be streamed or have live stats.
