UAB Comeback Falls Short in 15-10 Loss to Marshall

Zack Davis went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run for the Blazers (18-25, 5-15 C-USA). Jess Davis and Ian Ladner also homered for UAB. The Davis brothers, Carter Pharis, and Tyler Tolbert all had a multi-hit game.
Elvis Perlata went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI for the Thundering Herd (24-19, 10-10 C-USA).
Marshall wasted no time getting on the board, when Peralta hit a solo home run with one out in the top of the first inning.
The Blazers answered in the bottom of the first when J. Davis took the first pitch he saw over the wall in right field.
The Herd reclaimed the lead in the top of the second after Erik Rodriguez's triple scored Evan Hurn. Rodriguez would cross home one batter later when Peralta's double put Marshall ahead 3-1.
It looked like UAB was going to go quietly in the bottom of the third inning until Z. Davis' two-out double started a rally. Pharis singled, scoring Z. Davis. Then UAB took its first lead of the contest at 4-3 when Ladner homered to left field.
Marshall would go on to score seven unanswered runs, tying the score in the top of the fourth inning and breaking the game open the following inning when they exploded for six runs to take a 10-4 advantage.
Tolbert drove in Ladner and Pharis in the bottom half of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to four runs at 10-6. UAB would strike for two more runs in the sixth inning. Justin Wiley reached first base on a strike out/wild pitch and scored on J. Davis' double. J. Davis would come home on a Z. Davis single that made the score 10-8.
The Blazers had the tying run at the plate twice, the later came in the eighth inning. And they took advantage of the situation. With one out, Colton Schultz walked on a full count. Z. Davis followed with a home run to right field to tie the game at 10-10.
However, Marshall would respond with five runs in the top of the ninth inning, including a 3-run homer by Luke Edwards to take a 15-10 lead into the final half inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, UAB had two men aboard, but could not get them to score.
The series will be decided Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Tanner Graham (3-4, 5.36 ERA) will face Robert Kwiatkowski (1-3, 7.71 ERA).
