BIRMINGHAM – Head coach Robert Ehsan has announced that Jordan Brinson (Inglewood, Calif./Westchester) and Kassim Nicholson (Jackson, Miss/Callaway/Holmes CC) have submitted National Letters of Intent (NLIs) making them the third and fourth members of the 2019-20 recruiting class.
Brinson, a 6-2 guard, averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, for a Westchester team that finished 24-5 and earned a berth in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Southern Regional Open Division semifinals. Brinson averaged 26.5 points per game in the state tournament. The Comets finished the season ranked #9 in the state of California and #49 nationally according to MaxPreps.
Nicholson, a 6-6 forward, finished his sophomore season at Holmes averaging 15.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He led the Bulldogs to the championship game of the NJCAA Region XXIII tournament.
He was named Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC) First Team All-State and to the Region XXIII All-Tournament Team.
Prior to enrolling at Holmes, Nicholson was a standout at Callaway High School. His senior season he led the Chargers to a 23-11 record and a berth in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) semifinals. He was named to the 2017 Clarion-Ledger Fourth-Team All-State after averaging 15.3 points, 9.0 assists and 3.0 assists per game.
"We are excited to add Kassim and Jordan to our recruiting class," said Ehsan. "They are not only exceptional student-athletes but are also high-character guys who come from great families who hold the same values we do in our program. Both guys have been prepared well and come from successful programs. Kassim was coached by Jason Flanigan while Jordan was coached by Ed Azzam. Kassim and Jordan fit perfectly into our program and they will help us compete for championships."
Brinson and Nicholson join Jahein Spencer and Jalen Benjamin who signed with UAB in November.
