BIRMINGHAM – Florida Atlantic's Andru Summerall drove in three runs to lead the Owls past UAB 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Regions Field.
Ian Ladner and Carter Pharis combined for five of the Blazers' seven hits. Pharis and Jess Davis drove in runs for UAB, who falls to 10-14, 0-5 C-USA.
Joe Montes added a pair of RBI for FAU, who extends their winning streak to 10 games and improves to 16-7, 5-0 C-USA.
Mike Ruff recorded the win for the Owls, allowing just one run and four hits over six innings. Dylan Carter picked up the save after pitching three innings of relief. Tanner Rusk dropped his first decision of the year after giving up three runs in 5.1 innings.
The Owls got on the board first when Montes' double scored Jared DeSantolo in the top of the second inning.
With the bases loaded in the third inning, Summerall's sacrifice fly scored Eric Rivera, making the score 2-0.
The Blazers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ladner led off the inning with a double to left. After Keegan Morrow walked and Blake Johnson grounded out to advanced both runners, Jess Davis' sac fly scored Ladner making the score 2-1.
FAU responded in the top of the sixth inning. Summerall singled to open the inning followed by Pedro Pages double that advanced Summerall to third base. Montes got his second RBI of the game when his sac fly scored Summerall and put the Owls ahead 3-1.
The Owls scored three times in the top of the seventh inning take a commanding 6-1 lead. Summerall's two out double scored Gunnar Lambert and Jacob Josey. Pages got Summerall home on a two out single.
Tyler Tolbert doubled with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Zack Davis' deep fly out advanced Tolbert to third base, Pharis singled through the left side, sending Tolbert home for the game's last run of the afternoon.
The two teams will play the final game of the series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Regions Field.
