UAB Hosts Florida Atlantic for Weekend Series

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team returns to the diamond as it hosts Conference USA opponent Florida Atlantic at Regions Field for a weekend series.
First pitch for game one against the Owls (14-7, 3-0 C-USA) on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., while Saturday is slated for a 2 p.m. start. The final game of the series on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
UAB (10-12, 0-3 C-USA) paced offensively by redshirt junior Zack Davis, who leads the team with a .392 batting average. Colton Schultz has greatly contributed to the Blazers' offensive success, having recorded 28 RBI and four home runs to go along with 21 runs scored.
UAB redshirt freshman Jess Davis continues to lead the nation in stolen bases, having recorded 26 on the season for an average of 1.18 per game.
Graham Ashcraft will likely get the nod to start on Friday against the Owls. Ashcraft has a 1-2 record and an ERA of 3.52 on the campaign. Tanner Rusk is Saturday's probable starter, coming into the weekend with a 1-0 record and 2.55 ERA. Tyler Gates is scheduled to get the start in the final game of the series an brings a 1-0 record and 4.08 ERA into the second Conference USA series of the season.
The Blazers look to rebound after dropping two home mid-week games against Auburn and Alabama A&M, while Florida Atlantic looks to continue a winning trend after sweeping Rice last weekend.
The Owls are led offensively by Francisco Urbaez, who has a .435 batting average and has also tacked on 5 home runs and 18 RBI.
Florida Atlantic will likely start Blake Sanderson (4-0, 3.27 ERA), Mike Ruff (2-0, 7.11 ERA) and Nick Swann (1-0, 0.00 ERA) for the weekend series.
