Women’s Tennis Defeats Alabama A&M 5-2 on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team won doubles and all four singles courts they competed on en route to a 5-2 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon at George Ward Park.
The Blazers opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Marlene Herrmann and Alexandra Shchipakina defeated A&M's top duo Jasmine Boyd and Anita Bozhko 6-2, while Dominika Hrabalova and Megan Bertrands secured the point with a 6-3 victory over Ayana Rengill and India Woods.
The four who played doubles represented the team in singles, as Alabama A&M went ahead 2-1 in the match due to forfeits on courts five and six, but the Blazers breezed through singles for the team win.
Every court was a straight set victory for the Blazers, led by Herrmann on court one and Shchipakina on court two who both won 6-0, 6-3.
Court three saw Hrabalova defeat Rida Khalid 6-2, 6-1, while Bertrands won on court four 6-2, 6-3 over Woods.
The Blazers (4-8) are back in action this coming Friday, March 8, at home against Memphis. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at George Ward Park.
