UAB to Visit Brown in First Round of CBI

BIRMINGHAM – UAB has announced that it has accepted an invitation to the Roman College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
The Blazers (20-14), who advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Championship, will play at Brown (19-11) on Wednesday, March 20th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Bears finished in a three way tie for fourth place in the Ivy League with a 7-7 mark. Brown was 12-3 at the Pizzitola Sports Center this year and had regular season victories over San Diego State and Stony Brook.
Brown's leading scorer is sophomore guard Desmond Cambridge, who averages 15.7 points per game – fourth in the Ivy League. Cambridge was second in the league averaging 1.7 blocks per game. He was named to the USBWA District 1 Team. The Bears had a pair of players earn Second Team All-Ivy honors in Obi Okolie and Tamenang Choh. Okolie was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.
After tying a school record with 19 wins, Mike Martin was the Ivy League Coach of the Year.
Brown led the Ivy League in scoring defense (68.2 ppg) and three-point scoring defense (.297), while ranking second in the league in scoring offense (73.6 ppg.).
The UAB/Brown winner will face the winner of Cal Baptist and Loyola Marymount on March 25th.
ABOUT THE CBI
The 16-team CBI is a single-elimination tournament up until the best-of-three Finals, with all games played at campus sites. After the First Round games, the Quarterfinal Round will take place on Monday, March 25, followed by the Semifinal Round on Wednesday, March 27 or Thursday, March 28. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-bracketed. The Finals series is a best-of-three in which one team will host two of the three games. Those games will be played on April 1, April 3, and April 5.
ESPN is again the official television home of the CBI. ESPNU will televise each game of the best-of-three Championship Series.
