BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB women's tennis team blanked WKU on its way to a 4-0 victory over the Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon at the WKU Tennis Complex.
The Blazers (3-5, 1-0 C-USA) took the doubles point and notched singles victories on courts one, two and six to earn their third win of the season. All of the singles wins were dominating straight-set victories.
The match began with UAB winning on doubles courts one and two. Alexandra Shchipakina and Marlene Herrmann took down Laura Bernnardos and Lisa Friess 6-1, followed by Jana Hecking and Hana Sisirak topping Judit Gonzalez and Lucia Diaz Saez 6-4 to earn the 1-0 advantage.
Singles competition was not much of a contest as the three Blazer victories saw WKU only win four games combined. On court one, Shchipakina defeated Bernardos 6-1, 6-1, while court two saw Herrmann take down Friess 6-0, 6-1.
Hana Sisirak then blanked Kyla Dilger 6-0, 6-0 on court six as courts three, four and five were left unfinished once UAB had secured the team win.
The Blazers now turn their attention to cross-town rival Samford for a match this coming Thursday at 1:30 p.m., followed by hosting Tulane on Sunday, Feb. 24.
