UAB (4-2) jumped out to a quick start against Louisiana-Monroe as it put up four runs in the first and eight in the second. The Warhawks answered back in the third and fourth innings, scoring four and five runs to cut the Blazer lead to, 12-9.
ULM (1-4) chipped away with another run in the fifth and one in the sixth but UAB was able to get timely pitching to stifle the Warhawks and come away with the win, 12-11.
Sarah Crawford, Dylinn Stancil, Destini England and Jenna Olszewski all played key roles in powering the offense as each went 2-for-4. Crawford hit her first home run of the season, a three-run homer, in the second inning while Olszewski hit two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run.
Stancil picked up two RBI and scored once with England hitting a double, a triple and scoring twice herself. England's triple is the 11th of her career and she is just one shy of tying the school record of 12 which is held by Catherine Crawford.
Four pitchers threw against ULM with Claire Blount picking up the win. The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native tossed two innings, allowing only one run off two hits.
In the second game of the day, UAB exacted a measure of revenge on Austin Peay as it piled on the runs early. Six Blazers went 2-for-4 as the Green and Gold picked up 11 runs on 16 hits. The Blazers scored twice in the first inning with England driving home Stancil, who doubled to start the game, and was then driven home herself by Crawford.
Austin Peay (3-2) started off the third inning with an error and things snowballed from there as UAB scored six runs, taking a commanding 7-0 lead. The Blazers added to their lead with a run in the fourth before Austin Peay fought back with a five-run fifth inning.
The UAB offense couldn't be stopped however, as it responded with another runs in the fifth and sixth innings and took an 11-5 lead into the top of the seventh. The Governors scored once more but Blount shut the door and picked up her second win of the season and on the day, 11-6.
