UAB Falls to Auburn in First Road Game of the Season

AUBURN, Ala. – The UAB softball team stumbled in its first road game of the season, falling to the No. 20 Auburn Tigers, 9-0, on Thursday night at Jane B. Moore Field.
Auburn (4-2) opened up the scoring with two runs in the first inning as Alyssa Rivera drove in Taylon Snow and Tannon Snow. UAB (4-3) put two runners on in the second inning after Jenna Olszewski reached on a single and Claire Blount reached on an error. However, the offense could not move them around to score as they were left standing on second and first.
The Tigers added another run in the third off a sacrifice fly, taking a 3-0 lead after two. In the fourth, Auburn pushed across six runs on six hits to take a 9-0 lead. Four doubles powered the Tiger offense in the inning.
Taylon Snow, Tannon Snow and Casey McCrackin each went 2-for-3 on the night with Taylon Snow driving home two runs and scoring twice herself. McCrackin and Tannon Snow both had an RBI and a run scored.
Justus Perry also did damage for Auburn as she went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Makayla Martin (2-1) picked up the win for the Tigers as she tossed a complete game, allowing just one hit against the Blazers while striking out seven.
Claire Blount (2-1) took the ball for UAB and threw three innings, surrendering four runs off six hits. Bailie Barnes threw just an inning in relief, giving up five runs off five hits.
Olszewski had the Blazers' lone hit on the night, an infield single in the second inning.

UAB will continue play in the Plainsman Classic tomorrow when it takes on Texas Tech at 3 p.m. The Blazers will then play Drake and Furman on February 16 before closing out the tournament by playing Auburn a second time on February 17.
The Green and Gold's next home game is February 27 against Alabama at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are on sale for $5 for adults and $3 for youth and chairback seats are available for $10 for adults and $6 for youth.
