UAB Women’s Tennis Defeats Kennesaw State 6-1 on the Road

KENNESAW, Ga. - The UAB women's tennis team earned its second straight 6-1 victory as the Blazers defeated Kennesaw State on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.
"The team did a great job of focusing on the right things which helped us through this very solid Kennesaw State team," head coach Mark Tjia said. "Now we look forward to competing with one of the nation's top teams in Auburn tomorrow."
UAB (2-2) earned the doubles points with victories on courts one and two for an early 1-0 advantage in the match.
The Blazers' No. 1 tandem of Marlene Herrmann and Alexandra Shchipakina made quick work of KSU's Reilly/Baker 6-1, while court two secured the point for UAB as Sophie Dodds and Hana Sisirak topped Jarrett/Nash 6-4.
UAB was victorious in all singles matches except on court three, while four of the five wins came in straight sets for the Blazers.
Herrmann continued her strong play as she overpowered Lara Mehlsam 6-1, 6-0 on court one, while Shchipakina defeated Juliana Castellanos in a tie-break, 6-1, 4-5, 10-8 on court two.
Court three went in favor of KSU, but the Blazers took courts 4-6. On court four, Jana Hecking defeated Aspen Jarrett 6-3, 6-0, and court five saw Dominika Hrabalova breeze past Zoe Wende 6-2, 6-0. Rounding out UAB's efforts was Sisirak on court six with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Brenna Reilly.
