Women’s Tennis Participates in Roberta Allison Classic

TUSCALOOSA – The UAB women's tennis team wrapped up the fall season at the Roberta Allison Classic hosted by the University of Alabama.
The Blazers sent four players to the event.
In singles, Adela Wasserbauerova advanced to the finals of the Lori Smith Singles Draw. She opened with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Mizuki Sakurai from UT Martin. She went on to defeat Anastasiia Khokhlova from Troy in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 before falling to Memphis' Monique Wong in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the championship match.
Alexia Witthaus also advanced to the championship match of her bracket, the Titia Wilmink Singles Draw. She opened with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory against Aziza Aubin of UT Martin and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Leslie Soto Bustamante from South Alabama. In the championship, Witthaus battled hard with Madelena Andrade from Alabama State but eventually lost in a 3rd set breaker 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7).
Marlene Herrmann defeated Xiaowei "Rose" Hu from Indiana 6-3, 6-2 in the Heather Geros Singles Draw opening round. She fell in the semifinals to Chunxi Guo of Troy 6-1, 6-1. In the third place match, Herrmann lost to Urska Velec of Alabama State 6-3, 6-4.
Jana Hecking played in the Jim Tressler Singles Draw, winning her first match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 over Wisconsin's Anna Makarova. In the semifinals, she dropped a pair of breakers against Vanessa Streng from Northwestern. Alabama's Ann Selim won the third place match, defeating Hecking 6-1, 6-4
In doubles, the team of Hecking and Witthaus won the backdraw of the Nancy Pate Doubles Draw. Their final match was a 6-0 victory over Sredojevic Reisch from Lewis.
Herrmann and Wasserbauerova played in the Millie Begovic Doubles Draw. They fell to team from Memphis and Wisconsin before winning by walkover against UT Martin.
