Women’s Soccer Hosts First Place Charlotte on Thursday

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a 1-0 victory against then-first place North Texas on Sunday afternoon, UAB (4-4-4, 2-2-1 C-USA) returns back to BBVA Field to host current lead leader Charlotte (10-3-0, 5-1-0 C-USA) on Thursday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
THE SERIES
Charlotte has had the upper hand in the series, leading 8-2-1. The teams have split the last five matchups, each winning a pair with a draw. Last season, Kamilah Mustafa scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute to give the Blazers a 1-0 victory in Charlotte.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers are coming off a week where they defeated a pair of teams that had a combined record of 20-5-1 in LA Tech and first place North Texas. Sarah Buse's first career goal three minutes into play was all UAB needed to defeat first place North Texas 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at BBVA Field. Mustafa buried a penalty kick in the 44th minute which would become the game-winning goal in UAB's 2-1 victory over LA Tech last Friday.
UAB took home a pair of Conference USA weekly awards on Monday when Melissa Cameron was named Defensive Player of the Week and Eve Beyer Goalkeeper of the Week.
CHARLOTTE LATELY
The 49ers are currently in first place with 15 points, three ahead of FAU, North Texas and WKU. CLT has won five straight matches dating back to Sept. 26. Their only league setback was a 1-0 loss at Rice on the conference opener. Julia Grainda is the Charlotte leading scorer (7g, 7a, 21p) and has four game-winning goals. Megan Greene is second in the league with 45 shots.
PROMOTIONS
Fan can earn 1,000 Fired Up points by checking in during the 2nd half. There will also be a shirt toss for goals and the Taco Mama Crossbar Challenge at halftime.
UP NEXT
UAB wraps up the home slate when they host Old Dominion on Oct. 20 at noon for the annual Bark in the Park match. Halftime entertainment provided by the Flying Houndz Frizbee Dog Show.
The final three regular season matches are on the road. WKU on Oct. 25, Southern Miss on Oct. 27 and Middle Tennessee on Nov. 1.
