BIRMINGHAM – Sarah Buse's first career goal three minutes into play was all UAB needed to defeat first place North Texas 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at BBVA Field. The victory is the second in three days for the Blazers (4-4-4, 2-2-1 C-USA) and hands the Mean Green (9-4-0, 4-1-0 C-USA) its first conference loss.
The only goal of the match was set up by Natalie Presedo's feed into the box to Megan Hudgens, who headed the ball to Buse, who put a one-hopper past Mean Green keeper Kelsey Brann on the right side.
The Blazers' keeper Eve Beyer recorded her fourth shutout of the year while making a season-high six saves facing 13 UNT shots.
North Texas almost got the equalizer in the 74th minute, but Logan Bruffett's shot bounced off the cross bar and out of play.
"I am very proud of the grit our players showed today," said head coach Erica Demers. "We told them at halftime that a team like North Texas that knows how to win and will fight till the final whistle. The way our players came out to defend our home field was massive for our program. And hats off to Eve Beyer who was an absolute standout in goal for us today. She played with so much confidence and controlled the game with grace."
