Men’s Basketball Travels to Louisiana Tech on Thursday Night

BIRMINGHAM – Looking to remain unbeaten in league play, the UAB men's basketball team travels to Ruston on Thursday night to take on Louisiana Tech. Tipoff on beIN Sports is slated for 6:30 p.m. CST.
The Blazers are off to a 2-0 start in Conference USA after blowout victories over Florida Atlantic (67-50) and FIU (84-65) last week at Bartow Arena. UAB scored a season-high 84 points against the Panthers, and the Blazers have the top ranked scoring defense in league play after two games, allowing just 57.5 points per game.

STORYLINES:
The Blazers pulled down a season-high 48 rebounds against FIU and continue to dominate on the glass, having out-rebounded 13 of 15 opponents this season. The Blazers held a 48-29 rebounding advantage over the Panthers and lead the league in rebounding margin at +7.8, ranking 20th nationally. UAB is 10-3 when winning the battle on the boards.
It has been a key for UAB to hold its opponents under 70 points as the Blazers are 10-0 when doing so. The Blazers are also 9-0 when leading at halftime.
Senior forward Lewis Sullivan is coming off a career-high tying 22-point performance against FIU. Through two conference games, Sullivan is averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and is shooting 61 percent from the floor. He averages 10.9 points per game overall.
Sophomore forward Makhtar Gueye has come into his own of late and is averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds over his last five games. Included in that was a career-high 15 points vs. Alcorn State and his first career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds against Arkansas Monticello. He has scored double-digits in four of five games during this current stretch.
Fellow sophomore Zack Bryant continues to lead the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and has been in double-digits each of the past seven games.
Louisiana Tech is on a two-game skid after road losses at North Texas (63-59) and at Rice (78-66). The Bulldogs are undefeated at the Thomas Assembly Center with a perfect 8-0 mark. DaQuan Bracey is the team's leading scorer at 14.1 points per game, while he leads five players who average double figure scoring.
This is just the third true road game for the Blazers this season and following this game they head to Southern Miss on Saturday. UAB then returns to Bartow Arena where they are 8-1 the following weekend to host UTSA and UTEP.
