RUSTON, La. – With the game knotted at 49-49, Louisiana Tech used a 15-4 run down the stretch to defeat the UAB men's basketball team 64-53 on Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Blazers (10-6, 2-1 C-USA) never led in the game but erased a 14-point first half deficit. However, back-to-back triples from La. Tech's Amorie Archibald and JaColby Pemberton with less than five minutes to play broke the tie and jumpstarted a run that would ultimately lead the Bulldogs (12-5, 2-2 C-USA) to victory.
Senior guard Jalen Perry led UAB in scoring (13), rebounds (9) and assists (3), while the nine boards were a new career-high. Zack Bryant joined Perry as the only other Blazer in double figures with 10 points.
Louisiana Tech had three players in double figures, paced by Pemberton with 17 as the Bulldogs improved to 9-0 at home this season.
The Blazers got off to a rough start from floor, connecting on just two of their first 17 shots, both of which were 3-pointers from Perry.
Perry's second triple tied the game at 6-6, but a 14-0 Bulldog run ensued to give Louisiana Tech its largest lead of the first half at 20-6 with 7:16 remaining.
From there, the Blazers outscored the Bulldogs 16-10 for the remainder of the half and trailed 30-22 at the break. UAB was 8-of-30 from the floor, with five of its eight baskets coming from behind the arc.
UAB stormed out of the locker room and outscored the Bulldogs 14-6 which tied the game at 36-36 after a jumper in the lane by Will Butler with 13:55 to play.
La. Tech though, used an 8-0 run to gain a 44-36 advantage, and they would also have an eight-point cushion at 49-41 when Ra'Shawn Langston connected on a triple at the 8:07 mark.
The Blazers once again roared back and tied the game at 49-49 with 5:12 left after back-to-back buckets in the paint from Lewis Sullivan, but consecutive triples for Louisiana Tech broke the tie and gave them the lead for good as they secured an 11-point victory.
UAB was 37.5 percent from the floor overall, while Louisiana Tech shot 43.1 percent. For just the third time this season, UAB did not win the rebounding battle as both teams pulled down 36 of the glass.
The Blazers remain on the road and head to Hattiesburg to take on Southern Miss this Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans fan follow @UAB_MBB on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
