Blazers Head to Hattiesburg for Contest at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Playing its second of a two-game road swing, the UAB men's basketball team heads to Hattiesburg to face Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon. The game tips at 4 p.m. CST on ESPN+.
The Blazers (10-6, 2-1 C-USA) have won seven straight games against the Golden Eagles (9-7, 1-3 C-USA). This is the 49th all-time meeting between the two schools and UAB owns a 31-17 series advantage.
UAB looks to rebound after sustaining its first C-USA loss of the season on Thursday at Louisiana Tech. UAB is 1-2 this year in true road games and can even that record with a win on Saturday.
Senior guard Jalen Perry led the Blazers in points (13), rebounds (9) and assists (3) on Thursday, and became the sixth player this season to lead UAB in rebounding with his career-high nine boards.
It has been a team effort on the glass as UAB leads Conference USA and ranks 20th nationally in rebounding margin at +7.3. UAB has won the rebounding battle in 13 of 16 contests this season and is 10-3 when doing so.
Louisiana Tech was the first team this season to defeat UAB when the Blazers allow 70 points or less. UAB is 10-1 when it holds its opposition to less than 70 points and the Blazers are allowing just 59.7 points per game in league play, the second lowest in Conference USA.
Sophomore guard Zack Bryant continues to pace the Blazers offensively at 12.7 points per game and is currently on an eight-game double-figure scoring streak. He has been in double figures in 12 of his 15 games this season, including a career-high 26 points against Canisius in November.
Southern Miss registered its first C-USA win of the season on Thursday with a 77-70 victory against Middle Tennessee and improved its home record to 5-1 overall. Cortez Edwards and Tyree Griffin have started all 16 games for the Golden Eagles and are their leading scorers at 13.9 and 12.9 points per game, respectively.
Following Saturday's contest UAB returns home next weekend to host UTEP on Thursday, Jan. 17 and UTSA on Saturday, Jan. 19. Both games tip at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
