BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB has announced two early season opportunities to compete in non-conference play at the Opening Day Marathon and the Greenbrier Classic.
UAB will open the 2026-27 season as part of the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon, an event similar to the Tip-Off Marathon previously run by ESPN for several years before ending in 2017. The event will take place in Rock Hill, S.C., with the Blazers set to face McNeese State on Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
UAB will then return to action later in November at the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, W.V., with a pair of games just before Thanksgiving, facing George Washington on Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. and Rhode Island on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. Television designations for all three games will be announced at a later date.
Andy Kennedy is 16-3 in opening games including a 11-1 record at Ole Miss. He has posted a 4-2 record at UAB during his six-year tenure. Coach Kennedy is 7-4 in early season tournaments since being at UAB, including winning both games in Jacksonville, Fla. last season.
Since Andy Kennedy took over the program ahead of the 2020-21 season, UAB has collected 145 victories, the 16th-most wins in the country during that span. Kennedy and the Blazers reached four consecutive conference championship games before advancing to the quarterfinals last season. During Kennedy's tenure, UAB has captured two conference championships, winning the 2022 Conference USA Tournament and the 2024 American Conference Tournament.
