Since being re-inserted into the starting lineup three games ago, senior guard Jeremiah Bell has averaged 14.0 points per game and is shooting the ball at a very efficient rate. He has scored double figures in each of those games and has made 68.4 percent of his shots (13-of-19), including 61.5 percent from long range (8-of-13). Bell is averaging 9.5 points per game overall for the season.
Sophomore forward Makhtar Gueye has also come on strong of late, averaging 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in his last four outings. Gueye is the team's leading rebounder at 6.1 boards per game as he and Lewis Sullivan (6.0 rpg) have led the charge for the league's top rebounding unit.
The Blazers have now won the battle on the glass in 12-of-14 contests this season and are 9-3 when doing so. UAB's +7.0 rebounding margin is tops in C-USA and 33rd nationally. It has been a collective team effort as six of UAB's top seven scorers all average at least 3.5 rebounds per game.
At 10-4, FIU has matched its best start in program history, along with the 1984-85 team. The Blazers will be tested by an up-tempo team who ranks third nationally in scoring average at 92.6 points per game. FIU has eclipsed the century mark six times this year.
The Panthers are also a high-pressure defensive team and ball security will be key for the Blazers in this contest. Along with averaging 20.6 points per game, senior guard Brian Beard Jr. is the nation's leader in steals per game at 3.4.
UAB is 7-1 at home this season and is 49-9 at Bartow Arena since the start of the 2015-16 season.
