Blazers Close Homestand With Thundering Herd

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team closes its two-game homestand on Saturday when it hosts Marshall at BBVA Compass Field. Kickoff between the Blazers and Thundering Herd is slated for 7 p.m.
UAB (1-5-1, 0-2-0) is coming off a 1-1 double overtime against Memphis on Tuesday night. Philip Makinde netted his fourth career goal and his first since finding the back of the net against the Tigers last season.
The Blazers are no strangers to overtime this season as five of its matches have gone into extra time. UAB has a win and a tie underneath its belt when reaching extra time.
Seth Torman and James Teal have split time in net over the last few games for the Green and Gold. Torman has allowed three goals with 10 saves, while Teal has given up eight goals with 12 saves.
Marshall (2-3-1, 0-1-0) is playing its first match since Sept. 11 after its game last weekend at South Carolina was altered because of Hurricane Florence. The Thundering Herd have shutout wins over Dusquesne and Ohio State on the season.
Paulo Pito has played every minute in goal for Marshall, ranking second in C-USA in save percentage (.760) and shutouts (3), and fourth in saves (19) and saves per game (3.2).
UAB and Marshall are meeting for the 17th time in program history on Saturday. UAB leads the series, 11-4-1, and is a perfect 6-0 against the Thundering Herd in Birmingham.
Saturday night is Glow Night at BBVA Compass Field. The first 100 fans will receive glow wands and bracelets. Tickets can be purchased online or at the BBVA Compass Field Office for $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 and younger.
