Coastal Carolina Blanks UAB in Sunday Matinee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon at BBVA Compass Field in the finale of the Soccer for a Cure Classic.
The Blazers went 0-2 on the weekend in the 11th annual Soccer for a Cure Classic as UAB fell 2-1 to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night in overtime.
"I am really disappointed with the end result," head coach Mike Getman said. "Coastal Carolina is a really good team, it has been in the Sweet 16 three years in a row, but it didn't have a shot in the second half. Our goalkeeper only had to make one save in the whole game, but we didn't score and you can't win if you don't score goals. I am really disappointed with the result, but we continue to play well against good teams. We have to find a way to put the ball in the net and get over the hump."
The game winning goal came at the 12-minute mark as All-Tournament Team member Tsiki Ntsabeleng rifled a shot past the UAB keeper for the forwards' second goal of the season.
Blake White led the Blazers in shots with four as two were on target. White and Mathieu Laurent represented UAB on the Soccer for a Cure Classic All-Tournament Team.
Seth Torman made his UAB debut as he came in in relief of Teal in goal and played the entire second half.
The Blazers get almost a week off before returning to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they open Conference USA play against Kentucky. Kickoff between UAB and the Wildcats is slated for 7 p.m. at BBVA Compass Field.
Fans can receive admission into every UAB home men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball game for the entire 2018-19 season by purchasing a Gold Card. Contact the UAB Ticket Office, (205) 975-UAB1, for more details.
