Blazers Close Soccer for a Cure Classic With Coastal Carolina

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team wraps up the 11th annual Soccer for a Cure Classic on Sunday when welcomes Coastal Carolina to BBVA Compass Field. Kickoff between the Blazers and Chanticleers is slated for 1:30 p.m.
UAB opened the Soccer for a Cure Classic on Friday with a 2-1 rain soaked, overtime loss to Fairleigh Dickinson. The game was halted for two and a half hours at 12:10 mark in the first half after strong rains and lightening moved into the Birmingham area.
Gael Mabiala provided the lone Blazer goal in Friday night's contest as the senior defender netted his first career goal in the 65th minute. Mabiala is one of three Blazers this season to record their first career goals.
The Blazers have battled into overtime in all three of their matches this season, marking the first time UAB has opened the season with three consecutive extra time contests.
Coastal Carolina enters Sunday's match coming off of a 2-0 opening game win over Memphis on Friday. Saif AlHameli and Jorge Calix provided second half goals to lift the Chanticleers over the Tigers.
Tsiki Ntsabeleng leads the Chanticleers in points with eight as he has a goal with a pair of assists. Chris Datallo has manned the net every minute and has allowed five goals, while making six saves with a .545 save percentage.
Sunday marks the sixth all-time meeting between UAB and Coastal Carolina with the Green and Gold leading the series 3-1-1. The Blazers took the last meeting in 2012 2-0 at West Campus Field.
Memphis and Fairleigh Dickinson kickoff the final day of the event when the two squads meet at 11 a.m.
Sunday is First Responders Day at BBVA Compass Field. First Responders with a valid ID receive free admission into both matches. Additional tickets can be purchased at the BBVA Compass Field Ticket Office and are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 18 and younger.
Fans can receive admission into every home UAB men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball game for the entire 2018-19 season by purchasing a Gold Card. Contact the UAB Ticket Office, (205) 975-UAB1, for more details.
