UAB Falls to Louisiana Tech in Rubber Match 7-1

RUSTON, La. – UAB fell to Louisiana Tech 7-1 in the final game of the series on Sunday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex, dropping its first Conference USA series of the year.
UAB (20-28-1, 11-6-1 C-USA) jumped out quick on LA Tech scoring a run on two doubles in the first inning. Destini England led off with a two-bagger and was brought home by a double from Analyse Petree two batters later.
Louisiana Tech (30-18, 15-6 C-USA) fought back in the third and loaded the bases with nobody out. A sacrifice fly brought home the first run and a single to left scored two more runs as LA Tech took a 3-1 lead.
A solo home run down the left field line in the fourth inning extended the LA Teach lead to three at 4-1. They put three more runs on the board in the fifth with a bunt single and a two-RBI double to right center.
Megan Smith (2-2) got the start in the circle for UAB tossing two innings, allowing two runs on one hit. Claire Blount threw 2.2 innings in relief giving up five runs on four hits and striking out two. Emily Kachel also saw time in the circle throwing 1.1 innings without giving up a hit and recording a strikeout.

UAB will host UTSA for its final three home games of the regular season April 27-28 at Mary Bowers Field. The Blazers and Roadrunners will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT before wrapping up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
