PORTSMOUTH, Va. – It was an impressive weekend for Chris Cokley and William Lee at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament as they showcased their talents to NBA and international scouts at the three-day tournament.
Featuring the top 64 seniors in the country, Cokley averaged a double-double in three games and helped his team reach the championship before falling by one point (91-90) in the title game.
Cokley led his team in rebounding all three games and averaged 10.3 points and 10.3 rebounds overall. His 10.3 RPG were the fourth most at the tournament.
Cokley opened the tournament with 10 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action, and followed that up with 12 points and 12 rebounds in his team's second game. In the championship game, Cokley tallied nine points and 11 rebounds, which included two monstrous dunks.
Lee averaged 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in three contests and had his best game in his team's final game which was a 100-89 victory. Lee had 14 points and nine rebounds in that contest.
The Blazers were just one of 12 teams to send multiple players to the P.I.T. this year.
"I am proud of how Chris and William represented themselves and our program at this prestigious showcase tournament," head coach Robert Ehsan said. "They both demonstrated their impressive skill sets at a very high level and Chris was instrumental in helping his team to the title game. They both have bright basketball futures and will continue to be great ambassadors for UAB Basketball."
Cokley and Lee now await the NBA draft which is in late June.
