UAB Men’s Basketball Adds Guard Tavin Lovan to Class of 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Head Coach Robert Ehsan has announced the addition of Tavin Lovan to the UAB men's basketball roster for the start of the 2018-19 season.
A 6-foot-4 guard, Lovan attended Franklin Simpson High School and was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky in 2017. He spent 2018 at Hargrave Military Academy and comes to Birmingham with four years of eligibility.
"Tavin is a versatile and athletic guard that will make an immediate impact to our roster," Ehsan said. "He is mature beyond his years and his body is physically ready for the high demand of college basketball. We are extremely excited about Tavin being a Blazer as we continue to add high profile players to our program. Along with being an excellent basketball player, he is a high character kid who comes from a great family as both of his parents Tony and Veronica were also college basketball players."
As a senior for Franklin Simpson High School in 2017, Lovan averaged 26 points and nine rebounds per game en route to being named First Team All-State and the Region Player of the Year. His physicality and size allowed him to generate points in the paint while also scoring from the outside.
Following his high school career which saw him score almost 3,000 points, Lovan took a prep year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, where he helped lead his team to a 33-3 overall record and averaged close to 16 points per game.
Lovan will join the Blazers this Fall and is eligible upon arrival. He is interested in athletic training/exercise science as a major.
Rated the No. 63 shooting guard in the nation by 247sports, Lovan committed to the Blazers over Bradley, Duquesne, Eastern Kentucky, Miami (OH), Middle Tennessee, Toledo, USF, WKU and Winthrop.
Lovan adds to the incoming class of 2018 which includes Jude Akabukeze (6'8'', F, Lagos Nigeria/Farmington, W.Va./North Marion HS), Ryan Boyce (6'5'', F, Memphis Tenn./East HS) and Tamell Pearson (6'9'', Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park HS).
