UAB Opens Conference USA Play at Home Against Marshall

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB opens up conference action this Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 against Marshall at Mary Bowers Field. The Blazers and the Herd will play a double header on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. and one game on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
Due to expected weather in the area, the first pitch for Game One on Saturday has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. with Game Two starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
The Blazers dropped two games on Wednesday to Kennesaw State in double header action and fell to 7-17 on the year. Analyse Petree and Molli Garcia both hit homers on Wednesday and the Green and Gold now have 10 home runs as a team.
Despite the difficulties of the early season schedule, UAB sits towards the top of the conference in several team and individual categories. The Blazers are third in hits with 165 and are second in doubles having hit 30 to this point in the year. Petree is tied for third in C-USA with four home runs this season and is tied for second in the conference with 18 runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Emily Kachel is ninth in the conference with five wins and sits alone in second place in C-USA in innings pitched having thrown 77. The Kennesaw, Ga. native is in a tie for third place in Conference USA in strikeouts with 56.

- Destini England leads the Blazers and is tied for third in Conference USA with 26 hits.
- Senior Rachel Rogers is in a two-way tie for second in doubles in C-USA as she has hit seven through the Blazers' first 24 games.
- Natalie Erwin is the conference leader in triples with four on the year.
- Garcia has been tough to run on as she is third in the conference in runners caught stealing having thrown out six.
