Nick Norton Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – UAB junior guard Nick Norton was one of five student-athletes selected to the 2018 Conference USA Men's Basketball InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Friday.
Norton owns a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in finance and is expected to graduate with a bachelor's degree in April. A native of Bloomington, Ill., Norton was also named to the C-USA All-Academic Team in 2016 as a sophomore in addition to his selection as the 2016 Conference USA Men's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Norton is also pillar in the community and has participated in over 35 different community service projects during his time in Birmingham. He also serves as the UAB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Co-President and was the President in 2017 and Vice President in 2016.
"Nick is a conscientious student who works extremely hard to be successful in the classroom," Assistant Athletics Director of Student Athlete Development Natasha Criss said. "His dedication to his studies has allowed him to earn numerous academic honors and awards. He is an excellent example of a scholar-athlete, and he is well-deserving of all that he has received and will continue to receive in his academic career."
On the court, Norton averages 7.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game and recently helped the Blazers clinch their 34th winning season (out of a possible 40 seasons) in school history. He ranks eighth in Conference USA in assists, has registered over 125 assists in each of his three seasons at UAB and already ranks sixth all-time in school history with 434.
Norton also stands second in the league and 53rd in the NCAA with a 2.57 assist turnover ratio to go along with a team-high 33 steals. He's proven to be one of the top shooters in the league during his career and this season is hitting 34.8 percent of his three-pointers and stands second on the team with 48 treys.
Norton and the Blazers close the regular season Saturday at 7 p.m. against WKU from Bartow Arena.
