STARKVILLE, Miss. – The UAB women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss Sunday afternoon at Mississippi State from the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center.
Mississippi State (4-2) won the first two doubles matches to claim the first point of the contest and go ahead 1-0.
Anastasia Rentouli put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 when she defeated Dominika Hrabalova 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position. Jana Hecking cut the lead in half for the Blazers following her victory over Sara Lizariturry at No. 4.
Khrystyna Vozniak gave Mississippi State a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sonia Grzywocz at No. 5, and Magda Adaloglou clinched the victory for the Bulldogs by scoring the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Hana Sisirak at No. 2
"Jana Hecking picked up a win and Alex played very well," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "I was sorry that she didn't have a chance to close out that match and pick up a win over a very good player. Overall, we competed well, so now we head back home to get ready for three matches this week."
UAB returns to action Wednesday at 2 p.m. when the Blazers make the short trip across town to play at Samford.
