BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a week of training the UAB track and field team heads to Boston to run in the Harvard Crimson Invite on Friday, Feb. 2 and the Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational held at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 3.
The events get underway on Friday at 1 p.m. CT with the women's weight throw and long jump. Saturday's meet at Boston University starts at 9 a.m. CT with the women's shot put and long jump.
From the Coach's Desk:
"These are two really solid meets and we'll see some great competition and some fast times put up," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We pushed the girls hard with back-to-back meets to start January and they responded well. We had a training week last week and everyone is going into the weekend fresh and ready to run."
Last Time Out:
Serena Martinez and Marielle Lewis haven't had any difficulties switching from cross country mode into track mode as they both have been lighting it up in the middle distance and distance events.
Two weeks ago at the Vanderbilt Invitational Lewis set a new PR in the 800-meters running it in a time of 2:14.47 while Martinez turned in a time of 2:19.68 in the 800.
Ali Meister posted a strong time at Vanderbilt in the 60-meter hurdles, running it in 9.18 while Lauren Capone got her season started by running the 800-meters in 2:24.79. All four runners will be competing this weekend in Boston.
