COLUMBIA, S.C. – After rain delayed the game from Friday night to Saturday, the UAB men's soccer team fell 1-0 at South Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.
UAB finishes its Conference USA slate with a 2-5-1 record as Saturday marked the end of league play for the Green and Gold. With one regular season game remaining, the Blazers stand at 5-8-3 overall.
"We played hard and fought for 90 minutes, but we are struggling to score goals," head coach Mike Getman said. "I was pleased with how we played, but we must keep getting better. I know we will be ready and focused to send our seniors out the right way on Friday."
The game's lone goal came in the 28th-minute after Peter Soelberg netted a pass from Andre Streete to secure the 1-0 Gamecock win.
UAB entered the match ranking fourth in C-USA in shots, but was outshot 16-12 as it managed to get off just three in the first half. DeAndre Robinson, Blake White, Chris Reichman and Jake Futrell all led the Blazers with a game-high two shots.
Despite being credited with the loss, UAB keeper James Teal finished with a season-best six saves.
The Blazers close their regular season on Friday, Nov. 3, when they welcomes Georgia State for Senior Night. Kickoff between the Blazers and Panthers is slated for 7 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
Fans can receive admission to every home men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, baseball and softball game for the entire 2018-19 season by purchasing a Gold Card for $65. Contact the UAB Ticket Office, (205) 975-UAB1, for more details.
