Blazers Top Belmont for Second Straight Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 4-1 victory over Belmont Saturday afternoon from Samford University.
UAB (2-1) won the doubles point by rebounding to win the final two matches after dropping a 6-2 decision at No. 2. Marlene Herrmann and Sonia Grzywocz turned in a 6-3 victory over Drew Hawkins and Erin Allen at No. 1 to keep the Blazers in contention for the point, and Jana Hecking and Hana Sisirak complete the comeback for UAB following a 7-5 win over Mical Johnson and Sarah Brackin at No. 3.
Alexandra Shchipakina put UAB ahead 2-0 following her 6-0, 6-3 singles victory over Maria Plaksina at No. 1. Sisirak captured the Blazers' third point with her 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 win over Allen at No. 3, while Megan Bertrands sealed the win for UAB when she defeated Brackin 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4.
UAB returns to action Sunday at 4 p.m. when the Blazers travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Alabama.
