TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak snapped on Sunday when the Blazers dropped a 4-0 decision to Alabama at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Smith Hinton and Jacqueline Pelletier gave Alabama the early advantage when the duo defeated Hana Sisirak and Jana Hecking 6-1 at the No. 3 doubles position. Andie Daniell and Ann Selim clinched the point for the Crimson Tide with a 6-2 victory over Marlene Herrmann and Sonia Grzywocz at No. 1
Hinton put the Crimson Tide ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Herrmann at the No. 2 singles position, and Daniell upped the lead to 3-0 following her 6-2, 6-0 win over Alexandra Shchipakina at No. 1.
Selim sealed the victory for Alabama with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hecking at No. 5.
"Alabama has a very talented team and we have to give them credit," UAB head coach Mark Tjia. "We will get back on our courts this week and apply lessons learned from these matches to get ready for a very tough stretch of matches."
UAB returns to action Saturday at noon when the Blazers host Tulane from George Ward Park.
