Marielle Lewis Leads UAB At The Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Competing in back-to-back weekends the UAB track and field team continues to build coming off this weekend's Vanderbilt Invitational.

Marielle Lewis continued her strong start to the indoor season running in the 800-meters and setting a new PR time of 2:14.47. Serena Martinez had another strong outing in the 800 as well running it in 2:19.68.

Lauren Capone got her indoor season started this weekend and looked solid. She turned in an 800 time of 2:24.79. Ali Meister turned in a good performance for the Blazers in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.18.

Blazer Highlights:
Kyla Horn ran in the 60-meter hurdles finishing with a time of 9.27 placing her within the top 20.
Keila Robertson had a strong performance in the jumps posting a triple jump distance of 11.62 and a long jump distance of 5.36-meters (17-7).

Track Side with Head Coach Kurt Thomas:
"We had an up and down day, had a couple girls get knocked down in some races but that's going to happen and you have to fight through," Thomas said. "Everyone came out and competed really well this weekend which is great to see. We get next weekend off from competition and we will use it to train and continue to clean things up and get better heading into two meets up in Boston."
