Blazers Compete on Day One of Kutztown Invitational

READING, Pa. – Propelled by three wins on the lanes, the No. 14 UAB bowling team sits in 11th place after day one of the highly competitive 10th Annual Kutztown Invitational.
"Today was overall a good day," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We had good, competitive matches against many good ranked teams. While it was a good day there is still room for improvement. We are trying to grow every time we step on the lanes and learn from our experiences. Today was good but it can always get better."
UAB opened the day with a tough 10-pin loss to Delaware State before rallying in the second match to defeat Franklin Pierce 1,007-948.
Match three was a 969-938 win over Kutztown before keeping the winning streak alive with a 993-926 win over Sacred Heart. The Blazers dropped their fifth and final match of the day to Fairleigh Dickinson.
UAB amassed a 4,982 pinfall on day one for a 199.30 average over its five games.
McKendree leads the field after going 4-1 sitting ahead of Vanderbilt who escaped day one without a blemish on its record.
Day two is set for Saturday with teams bowling five Traditional matches. The Green and Gold will be paired with Maryland Eastern Shore to begin the second day of competition.
